We hope that the following websites will be useful to those interested in Meditation. If you have a website that you would like included here, please contact us.

Meditation Classes in New York City

We are initially listing places in New York City where you can take a meditation class. We intend to include places outside of New York City in the near future.

  • Shantideva Meditation Center: This Brooklyn jewel is dedicated to cultivating wisdom and compassion through the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism via ongoing classes and lectures. If you are travelling from Staten Island to Shantideva, you can get their easily via public transportation in approximately 45 minutes.

Meditation Supplies

The following websites sell meditation supplies including meditation pillows (Zafu), meditation cushions (Zabuton), incense, statues, books, CDs, and much more.

  • DharmaCrafts: We love DharmaCrafts! They have an incredibly large and diverse selection of meditation supplies. But what we like the most is the fact that their meditation cushions are made in the USA and are possibly the finest quality cushions you will find anywhere.

Meditation Publications

The following websites offer publications on or relating to meditation.

  • Happy Monks Publication: Ven Fedor Stracke has written a wonderful short book titled “Urban Meditation Skills“. It is an excellent book for people new to meditation and also includes some inspiring meditations for those that have been meditating for a while. You can download a PDF version here.

Buddhist Monasteries

People that come to The Compassion Center have a curiosity in Buddhism. There are in fact some Buddhist monasteries located in New York State, as well as surrounding states, that you can visit on a day trip.

  • Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD): Located approximately 2 hours away, nestled into the town of Woodstock, New York, is a Buddhist Monastery called Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (or KTD as it’s known). This is an amazing place to see in person. Once you get there and see the view from of the main shrineroom, and then step inside the main shrineroom, you’re not going to believe that a place like this exists in New York State (let alone the USA).
I am a proud member of KTD and encourage people of all faiths to visit the beautiful town of Woodstock, New York, and then take a free tour of the KTD monastery. It’s a great same-day trip from Staten Island, all NYC Burroughs and surrounding areas.
